I always thought it would be fun to learn to read tarot cards but I have not taken the time to pursue that interest further than using the cards to spark my imagination from time to time.
I have several decks. This is the one that called to me for my current project.
I've had a couple bad experiences with the occult, so I tend to stay away from this kind of stuff.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry. That would not be pleasant.
DeleteNo thank you.
ReplyDeleteOkay - I won't make you then. ;)
DeleteI've never tried them. I think I'd be too scared!
ReplyDeleteFor me it is like using the Inner Outings. Draw a card and see what it feels and take it from there.
DeleteTarot cards are so cool! You should definitely pursue it, even if it is just for yourself.
ReplyDeleteI should. I always thought it would be fun and I love the pictures.
DeleteVery cool. I've seen some amazing artwork on tarot cards. I used to have my own deck, but I've never had the knack for reading them.
ReplyDeleteI bought a book to try and learn, but it would take away from my writing so I am content with pretty pictures.
DeleteI bought a little kit and did the basic two card draw, and the meaning was quite intriguing. I think with these you have to hold the intention for a positive outcome, (pray it will feel good, if you like the word pray) so bad vibes don't bother you.
ReplyDeleteI have never had bad vibes from the cards or runes. I don't believe that they are inherently evil or of the devil or some such. They are a tool.
DeleteI love Tarot. Had my first reading when I was 12 at a Halloween party and it was so spot on (from someone that didn't know me at all) that I was sold. I have a Mother Peace deck, which I love, and also the Crowley Thoth deck. I haven't used them with my fiction, but I've considered it.
ReplyDeleteI was about 40ish. A co-worker bought me a reading for my birthday. I wished I'd been more prepared to ask questions. I didn't know I could, but it was fun anyway.
DeleteLovely deck! I've been reading tarot for years, primarily for myself. Tarot cards are about tapping into intuition and the subconscious, there's nothing supernatural about them.
ReplyDeleteThe protagonist in my first book read tarot over the internet to put herself through grad school.

That is awesome. I have runes that I've used for myself for many years. Tarot appeals to me because of the pictures.
DeleteI agree. I started learning to read Tarot a few years ago, but as a way to dig into the subconscious, not fortune telling. The symbols are so archetypal they help you connect with yourself and create your own future.
DeleteFascinating post on Tarot cards. Some article once suggested using Tarot cards to explore your characters' motivations and inner self. It was quite an interesting experiment. I do have a Mermaid Tarot, but, like many, I tend to hold back from truly using them to predict the future. My sister, though, reads her Tarot nearly every day. The Tarot cards you have shown in the picture are quite beautiful.
ReplyDeleteMermaid deck? That sounds like it would be pretty. I love the ocean.
DeleteI used to have quite the collection, but when I started on the Delusions of Minimalism path, i got rid of all but my very favorites. No big deal to use them, just follow the booklets. And from my experience, they never lie...
ReplyDeleteOne day I will take the time to learn more.

I had a bad experience when reading tarot as a teenager- did not touch the cards again until they were part of a class I was taking. OMG I love them now!!!
That is awesome. I'll check out your teachers. Thanks for sharing.
