And the winner is...
Another Nano is under my belt. I do feel a bit like I cheated though. I dropped my word count goal down to 30,000.
I struggled with this one. Hit a brick wall at one point and the word count suffered. I took a step back and restructured what I wanted to do with my story and that got me going in the right direction again.
While I'm done with Nano I'm not done with my story. I am really only at the Call to Adventure. It was here I hit another wall. So I pushed on through to get the 30,000 words, barely. 30,066.
As soon as I put paid to Nano my Muse said, "Hey, I've got an idea."
Thank you Muse. I now have a rough sketch of how I want my story to proceed.
I had thought of diving in for the next few days and knocking out another 20K but I decided I would just rather go back to my normal routine. So that's what I'm doing..

Sometimes you can't coax that Muse until it's ready. 30k is still a good effort, well done!
ReplyDeleteThanks = )
DeleteWell done! You set a writing goal and you achieved it - that counts for something. How many people set a goal and don't achieve it? How many don't even set a goal?
ReplyDeleteI won also, but I didn't do my verifying etc yet on the site. I wrote a lot of backstory for my novel, which didn't get me too far ahead in the actual plot but it did help me flesh out the characters and the story more for going forward.
Now with the backstory written is huge! Congrats on the win.
DeleteI need to do Nano. You've inspired me, definitely. I'm happy with 1,000 words a day, and I'm so impressed with people who stick to that kind of thing. Good for you!
ReplyDelete1,000 words a day is excellent.
DeleteIf you add 667 you'll win Nano. = )
Congratulations with the progress! That is a huge deal. Don't you just love how the muse just sneaks in at the end? I am sure you will work it all out. Best of luck with the writing.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Yep, every time I said I was going to throw in the towel she'd step up to the plate.
DeleteCongrats on reaching 30K. The muse can be mean sometimes. Mean and silent, but eventually will start letting you know how the story goes.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I actually feel better about the 30K that I have than other times when I force it to the 50K and beyond.
DeleteI think that's why I stopped Nano where it was. I like what I have and don't want to mess it up because of a word count goal. ;)
You did so good! Really pushed that wordcount, I am proud of you. I think my trip back home reset my mind and way of thinking and divorced me from my novel. Now I have too much on my mind. Still struggling thru it tho.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! 30,000 words in the middle of summer is incredible.
ReplyDeleteCongrats! That was huge. I got totally derailed when my 88year old father came and visited for a week. Otherwise, I was writing about 1600 words each day and seeing progress. Though, I guess since I started late, I still have two weeks to go.
